Great price for a really solid mid-range cpu. Basically getting the 3600x for the price of the 3600. I picked this up 3 months ago for $230 and I haven't had any issues with it.

Snap... I just bought the 3600 from microcenter last week too. Time to return everything then and get this instead or should I future proof myself a bit and go with the 3700x?

The difference between the two chips is negligible. I wanted to play Outer Worlds, so the extra $10 was a no brainer. The 3700x was too big of a step up in price for me to justify. If you do a lot of video editing/encoding it might be worth it for you.

I found the stock CPU cooler that came with the 3600x to be too noisy, so I replaced it with a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Black Edition. Much quieter.

honestly depends what you are doing with it and what you have it paired with. The quick and easy answer is the 3600 wins hands down.....but if you then reply you have this cpu paired with...IDK a gtx 1060 or RX 580 and I doubt you'd see any difference in all but the most cpu intensive games. (the 3rd gen destroyes the 2nd gen in synthetic tests, but real world performance gains are much smaller...still impressive though)

On the flip side you got a 2080ti, then get the upgrade.

So there is no one shoe fits all answer.

But at the of the day, unless you get a huge price difference, go with the 3rd gen Ryzen.

Thanks for the thorough explanation, I ask because I just got the 2700x today for $125 which came with a $30 discount on a board so it was essentially $95. I'm probably only going to put a rx 580 in it because I'm trying to keep the cost low.

Go to the store and check out Open Box deals. I snatched an Asrock X570 Steel Legend open box $190 Ori for $152 discounted - minus the $30 off bundle = $122!!! That's a "Steel"! Peace

UPDATE: I called Microcenter and they refunded $20 back to my credit card since I paid the regular price of $219.99 just few weeks ago:
Payment type: Credit Card
Original price: $219.99
Current price: $199.99
Approved by: Andi A.

The following restrictions do apply to Price Protection:

We do not price protect special sales such as Black Friday or Cyber Monday.
The current price must be lowered within 30 days from the date of purchase.
If you paid for this transaction with a credit card we will apply the refund to your card. If you paid by any other payment type (debit, cash, etc.) you must return to the store to receive your refund.

Is the 3700x a significant upgrade over this? I'm gaming with a 2080ti and want to try for 144hz 1440p

Uuugh. Been waiting on this to go on sale. Microcenter is hour and half away and no adjustment to match BF or CM? I have a feeling it'll be at least this cheap for BF.

Purchased a Ryzen 5 3600 from Newegg via eBay about two weeks ago stacked with ChaseFreedom and 8% eBay bucks promo.

Difference was about 8-23 dollars when considering the famous $30 microcenter discount.
