    I use Irwin Turbomax drill bits, which have a similar design but a more tapered transition between the pilot point and the main cutting edge. I only use them on wood, but they've been the most long-lived set I've ever owned.

    I've had a set of these for a few years. The pilot point does come in handy for drilling holes exactly where you want them. For soft materials like wood and plastics you can't really go wrong. Not sure I'd want to hog into some steel plate or iron pipe, though.
