Edit 12/5/2019 for those that missed converting up to 36 months of gold into Ultimate with this deal
For everyone wondering if you can turn your Xbox Live Gold time into Game Pass Ultimate after using this promotion, the answer is "yes you can". My Game Pass Ultimate promotion time ran out today (Ultimate must not be actively on your account subscription for this to work) and I bought and applied a 12 Month Xbox Live Gold card (offered a free bonus month for auto-renew), and then after that, a 3 Month Game Pass Ultimate card. It was showing details about how their conversion ratio worked, which suggested that applying 12 months of Gold would add 5 months of Ultimate time, and I was concerned that it would throw away a bunch of my existing Gold time - but it worked as I had hoped. This combination, applied in this specific order, gave me 16 months of Game Pass Ultimate (12 +1 bonus +3 Game pass Ultimate card), a 1:1 ratio just like others here have received via the promotion. Who know if this will still work a year from now, but it works now for those that are wondering.

"Joining Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will upgrade your remaining Xbox Live Gold or Xbox Game Pass for Console or Xbox Game Pass for PC time into Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for the same amount of time, up to 36 months. All conversions are final. See xbox.com/gamepass for details."

Nope. If you are the first time to subscribe XGPU and you are currently a live gold member, you can actually get the extension of XGPU depending how many time left for you live gold. Let's say you have 3 months left before your live gold expires. After you paid $1 for 3-mo of XGPU, you will get 3+3 months of XGPU due to the conversion.
