yes you can move the OS to it and make it the boot drive. There are some cloning tools out there for it (need to clone it not try to copy and paste or move the folders); though from what I've read your best bet is to do a fresh install of the OS on this drive, plug it in and change it to the boot drive in the BIOS. I believe you can use the existing license to activate it if needed and I've heard this is much easier with Win10. Might google changing boot drive to SSD and get some 1 2 3 walk-throughs

edit: worth noting is that the easiest cloning experience I've had was using Samsung's software to clone but it has to be a Samsung drive (unless there is a way to fool the sw to think it is Samsung but I didn't bother trying)
