FWIW, I bought this camera, not on sale, for surveillance purposes outdoors and indoor. Mind you im on the basic package so I didn't have any features such as 24/7 monitoring, etc. I like the magnetic swivel mounts on these. The resolution is also fantastic, has a good wide angle, and it can pick up pretty good audio.

However, I do not like that there is a delay of video capturing triggered by motion. There is at least a 2 second delay to these to start capturing. If the object in video is moving at a fast speed or turns a corner outside of the viewing angle, chances are that the Arlo will not capture the "moment" of things happening. The Arlo does pick up motion pretty well, so if you have a long hallway or driveway, it'll detect motion and start recording once the target is in your hallway, not entering. For that reason, I'm returning and looking for an installer to install a NVR/PoE system.
Hi CrimsonScent and others

FYI - the ability to capture license plates during the day so that you're able read them depends on how many effective pixels you can get on the license plate. While higher resolution is better for this - remember it is effective pixels on target.

The 4K cameras from Arlo have very wide FOVs, which reduces the "range" - and with compression to reduce cloud storage and bandwidth you get less effective pixels.

For a better idea of how FOV camera resolution affects the theoretical ID distance ( and also license plate reading ability ) see the ID distance chart in
https://slickdeals.net/f/10409612-lorex-dahua-oem-6x-4k-8mp-security-camera-system-w-8-port-poe-ip-nvr-2tb-hdd-kit-at-costco-b-m-ymmv-for-799-99

Also - night time license plate capture is challenging due to the reflective nature of plates - so you will need to custom tune the camera to just capture plates to read. ( see ipcamtalk lpr section for more info on this )
I don't know about range, but main difference is it doesn't have built-in siren and cannot connect Arlo Pro 3 cameras. The small base station is either 3000 or 3500 model. See KB article here: https://kb.arlo.com/000062284/Wha...se-station

Before purchasing cameras you need to identify exactly what it is you're trying to capture. These cameras including the higher end 4k cameras aren't catching license plates for instance IN MOST SCENARIOS.

With cameras like this you're looking to identify ppl clearly from roughly 5-7 ft away. After that you can tell the gender, color, what their wearing but facial details on a moving subject will be difficult.

That isn't to knock this system, I have it. My needs were to clearly identify ppl as they walked up my driveway and approached my doors.

If youre trying to see past that, clearly and make out details you need to look into cameras with not only a high resolution, but also an optical zoom as well as 30fps capability.

How's is this deal compared to Best buy 4 Arlo pro 2 cam for $400? Only comes with 1 outside mount.
Also the best buy seems to have a different (older) base station...

If looking for a totally wireless solution, look into the Eufy 2C or 2. Super long battery life, local non subscription storage, and really nice video and crazy sensitive audio.

2C (2 camera/base) was $199 on Amazon
Only downside to the Eufy is that the battery will probably only last about 3 years and is not replaceable.

There was a comment in another post on these about not having the time/date stamp inside the video capture resulting in a recording being turned down in court. Anyone have the scoop on that?

Walmart Black Friday has a 3 camera system (Arlo) for 179.00. Is this worth the extra $$?
Hi mnmailman

These cameras are Arlo Pro 2 cameras ( gen-3 ), the one's in the Walmart kit appear to be gen-1 cameras from the pictures. Thus they are significantly better cameras.

More on the Walmart deal posted here:

Hi Blorton

documented in the Wiki of this thread, search for the Arlo section:

what's also great about this kit is that it comes with all (3) exterior screw mounts. most kits only come with 1 or maybe 2 and the rest are the crappy magnetic ones
