These were on sale not too long ago for what I thought was a good price, but this is even better at just over $1 per can. For reference, individual cans sold on amazon prime pantry are selling for $2.53 apiece.

You're definitely wrong. A few days ago I saw a truck that looked like it belonged in an older video game on here .
I got 2 boxes of these when they were on sale around 6 months ago. I'm not sure if I ever checked the date, so after reading your post I grabbed a can. Produced in 2018, good till 2021. That seems okay to me. BTW, they were by far the best sardines I ever had. Not even a fan of sardines, and this brand was fantastic.
