For those who bought the Lenovo 100e Chromebook (100e Chromebook 2nd Gen MTK) like I did from Walmart / Amazon for $99, and wonder how this compares, here are some specs and info:

HP 11.6" Chromebook (11-v031nr) 4GB $99.99
Dual-core Intel® Celeron processor: The perfect combination of performance, power consumption, and value helps your device run smoothly.
HP TrueVision HD Camera: Video chat with vibrant clarity, even in low light.
Operating system: Chrome
Processor: Intel® Celeron® Processor N3050
Display: 11.6-inch diagonal HD(33) SVA AntiGlare WLED-backlit (1366x768)
Memory: 4 GB LPDDR3-1600 SDRAM (onboard)
Internal storage: 16 GB eMMC
Graphics: Intel® HD Graphics 400
Battery life: Up to 11 hours (mixed usage)
Wireless: Intel® 802.11b/g/n/ac (2x2)Wi-Fi and Bluetooth® 4.2 Combo
Camera: Front-facing HP TrueVision HD Webcam with integrated dual array digital microphones
Product weight: 2.51 lb
ports: 2xUSB-A, 1 HDMI, 1 microSD card reader, 1 headphone / mic combo

Lenovo 100e 11.6" Chromebook: 1366x768 TN, MT8173C, 4GB RAM, 16GB Storage
11.6" 1366x768 HD TN 250 nit Anti-Glare Display ( 100e Chromebook 2nd Gen MTK )
Mediatek MT8173C Quad-Core Processor @2.1ghz
4GB LP-DDR3 1866MHz RAM
16GB eMMC 5.1 Internal Storage
802.11ac Wi-Fi (2x2) + Bluetooth 4.1
2x 2W Stereo Speakers
720p Webcam
Non-backlit keyboard
Chrome OS (w/ Google Play Store / Android App Support)
10-Hour 42Wh Battery Life
Ports:
1x USB Type C
1x USB 3.0 Type A
1x 4-in-1 media reader
1x headphone/microphone combo

According to my research, the Lenovo 100e is the better buy, because of the following:

1. Lenovo 100e end of life support by Google = June 2025 [google.com], while HP v0XX end of life support by Google is June 2022 [google.com]

2. Lenovo 100e comes with a nice 45w USB-C charger, which can be used to charge other modern devices, like my XPS 13, or Samsung s8/s9/s10, MacBook / iPad Pros, etc.. The HP V031nr comes with a proprietary 45w barrel plug that can't be used with most other products.

3. Lenovo 100e has quad core CPU, with big.LITTLE architecture that allows 2 lesser cores to do small tasks or when idle, saving power, while bigger cores kick in when more power is needed. It is also ARM architecture so it runs Android apps better as well. The HP V031nr only has a dual core Intel CPU that isn't as efficient at running Android apps or while at idle.

4. Lenovo 100e is also designed to be rugged / spill proof, with MIL-STD-810G test certified.

So overall, the Lenovo 100e is a much better deal, but it's good to compare and have options.

Octane is basically the go to benchmark for things you can actually do on Chromebooks, here are the scores for both this and the Lenovo

MediaTek M8173C - 10,000
Celeron 3060 - 8600
Celeron 3050 - 7200

Hope that also helps anyone else who was on the fence. I found conflicting information on the processor in this Chromebook so I included Octane scores for both chips

Agree benchmark they are pretty close, with MediaTek edging out the Celeron 3050 just a little. But power consumption wise, and Android app support wise, the MediaTek is better.

Some more in depth info on both processors and a comparison https://www.notebookcheck.net/N30...596.0.html

Oh no, hands down the MediaTek chip is the better option. That's where I was going with the octane information haha

Gotcha, thanks for the update.

With the link I posted earlier, for Octane V2, MediaTek is 10,319, Celeron 3050 is 7,291, so MediaTek is about 42% better.

I don't think Ubuntu can be loaded onto the MediaTek chip based Chromebook. Not sure if that matters to anyone but me
