the difference between this C535 and the 5500-2 is the C535 does not have a washable carbon filter while the 5500-2 does have a washable carbon filter.
the 5500-2 uses a 3-stage air cleaning system, featuring an odor reducing carbon filter.
Shown in the video is an ACTUAL HEPA filter. It's massive and very expensive unlike this $90 buzzword filter. Instead I got a $20 box fan from Home Depot and a 6-pack of MERV 13 (catches all dust, smoke, and even bacteria) filters for less than $40 on ebay. I have asthma so I made a more elaborate design like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0A8Yink0czc
This design is cheap, less likely to fail, has much greater dust collecting surface area, runs ~$20 a year in filter replacement, looks ghetto, and can function as a light table.
Someone talk me into buying this. I have allergies, and I tend to let dust accumulate in my apartment a little more than I should. Is this likely to help me sleep better if I leave it running in my bedroom?

Had been planning on picking up another from Costco at $99 until they changed models for a less well reviewed one and cut down in the number of filters. Happy to pay less here for this. Thanks and repped!

Costco started promoting the Winix C555 (I think that's the model number, Costco's website is down currently) that is more expensive and has fewer bundled filters. I'm not sure how that makes sense on Costco's part so this very slick. If you were on the fence for this or similar deals - this is the one. I purchased 3 from Costco whenever they hit $100 and am completely satisfied. My nephew smokes multiple things using one of these to filter the air and says they're solid for that too.
$50 for a year of filters after the 2 years. This is like the HP printer ink model. Do I really need this? People survived before it and billions live in more polluted areas around the world.

Costco equivalent is the C545 which went on sale for $99.99 early November with only 1yr worth of filter. Costco C545 also has WiFi function but that appears to be hit or miss.
Thanks OP, been on the fence about these room filters, but I've read it's better to run these than a super restrictive filter in your HVAC system. In for 1.
