I bought this on the refurb deal. I wanted something affordable to get work done between a long gap in classes. My criteria was a little bit less demanding because the way I saw it was that any money I could save it could go towards my desktop future upgrades, that's where more serious work gets done.
Get some extra ram and you'll be all set, bigger ssd if you plan to do more with yours.

This is what I think of it so far. I think it's one of the best deals out there. This machine is affordable but does not feel cheap. What I mean by that is that sometimes companies go out of their way to make some laptops feel less substantial than they need to be so that it doesn't co-compete with other higher end models. The IPS screen is really nice, battery life is acceptable, keys are a bit rubbery but there's no let down if you manage your expectations. The track pad is better than what I expected, some people would say that they would like touch screen, it's less of an issue because this modern laptop has windows gesture support, so you can use finger gestures to zoom in, out, swipe pages in pdf files. Technically you don't even have to click down on the pad, one press is a left click, and two fingers is a right one, no need to push down on it.
My only complaints and these are not necessarily the laptops fault would be that id be nice if it's weight and the charger together were a bit lighter, and some ppl like the speakers, but I think they are the weak point of the machine. You normally don't see lighter devices with decent specs unless you spend quite a bit more money.
watching video, productivity, browsing is fine. Just have realistic expectations for gaming,Gaming laptops normally cost a lot more and weight a lot more. I see myself limiting my use to 2d games like FTL ect. There's someone out there that will find it suitable enough for minecraft at lower settings.

Specs are yes. But it has a better ips display than almost any laptop under $500. color spectrum isnt good at around 65% srgb (typical of budget ips) but 276 nits of brightness is good compared to around 210-220 for almost all the other ips screens in the budget laptop category.

For me it has a 15+ inch screen, backlit and IPS with modern hardware for my blind old man who wants a laptop for browsing.

Those 3 things have been a pain to find on one laptop under $300 for me.

Only one I've seen better so far is the Costco i3(i5) notebook. Good deal.

Looks typical of the sub-300 laptop deals.

this is a great laptop, typing this answer on it right now. I picked it up on Amazon Prime Day this summer, and do not regret. For a simple browsing laptop, or streaming the occasional movie, you cant beat it.

Great screen, backlit keyboard, decent weight.

The only major downside is the speakers. They are very weak. I pair with a set of wireless headphones for movie watching, otherwise it's hard to hear sometimes.

Yes. Easily. Just remove screws on bottom cover, then pop the cover off.
