Signed up for $30 / 14 months plan. Feels like a waste of money.

Poor web-site.

Dated Usenet client. Every file you touch is infected with virus.

VPN does not work. Also they want you to pay more to upgrade to "Pro": "Exclusive SlickVPN offer: Upgrade to SlickVPN PRO for only $35 lifetime or 60% off monthly plans Click here for more details"

The 24/7 Support is apparently not 24/7 "NewsDemon will be back tomorrow. Give the team a way to reach you:"

Spend your money elsewhere.

For those in the know, mind sharing in a nutshell what's the best modern day use case for this service?

EDIT: FWIW here's a Usenet guide some Redditor put together:

Certain rules apply to the service...best way I'd put it that also correlates to that link is the "automated retrieval of content" 😛

NewsDemon is very good. I have been on a 200GB/month package but just picked up ThunderNews unlimited for $25/year so I can discontinue ND. They use the same backbone but I've noticed NewsDemon with only 8 connections seems faster than ThunderNews at 50 will SSL. Maybe I need to tweak settings but so far NewsDemon is faster.

I would be curious as to what block accounts people will pair with ND.

SSL port 8080 a few connections
SSL port 563 a few connections

Congrats, they now have a record of a bunch of gibberish from your pc to a server. Same record if they had a VPN or remote session for work. Vpn will mask IP, it doesnt mask the account used to upload or download.

so bottom line, is it ok to download without a VPN? I do have a VPN but but it slows down speeds, so i would rather not use it unless i have to.

NewsDemon is great. I've been a user since 2014 and usually re-up yearly with the BF deals, but I'll be switching to the $3/mo unlimited recurring. GREAT deal, as a few years ago I was paying $10/mo.

I've never used a VPN with this.

Well, I'll put it like this: My VPN slows downloads on EZNews considerably. In over 15 years, I've never had any issues with SSL and NO VPN. So, Torrents = VPN, Usenet= No VPN needed. That is just my experience. I've gotten two C&D's from my ISP, a billion years ago, due to 1) Laziness and 2) Foolishly thinking ToR was safe. That was w/ torrents. Not a peep w/ Usenet and SSL.
