Is this a good entry level printer for someone who doesn't have a clue what they are doing?

You don't need a good PC to start 3d printing

Great news! How do you get the files? Designs? whatever you call them from online to the printer?

You can even do it without a PC if you are just printing models that you download from thingiverse dot come or elsewhere, and then just use a phone to put the file onto a memory card. To do actual 3d object editing a decent PC is definitely preferable, but not essential.

Good price? This is amazing deal! Especially if you have a prime, it is better than the Woot deal

Am I crazy to want to give this to my 9 year old? Is it too much for him to understand? I'm very mechanically inclined so I can help.

It's an amazing first printer. Don't overthink it, 3d printing is easy as pressing a few buttons and watching it go when you start. Once you get an understanding of it you can tune the settings to get your perfect print.

There are seemingly endless designs online for pretty much anything you could want, but when you decide you want to make designs yourself it's pretty easy with some practice.

Just get it!
