That would be fraud and a complete dick move. This is a great deal as it is, no need to screw them over...
Yes interchangeable, difference is some of the tools have more power and the battery packs deliver more power when needed by using contact points on the tools and battery that communicate. You can use octane on gen5x and see an improvement, according to some.
Yes, you can still register for the LSA if you purchase new or blemished Ridgid tools from Direct Tools Outlet, which is owned by the same company that manufactures Ridgid.

Refurbs don't qualify and only get a 1-year warranty.

does anyone know, What is the difference of the Octane series vs. the Gen. 5x? Are the batteries and tools interchangeable?

If you add the starter kit and then add the jigsaw, in your cart it won't show that the jigsaw is free and starter kit is $169. Instead it takes a percentage off of both tools - and they probably input it wrong. The starter kit and jigsaw is instead showing $119 in cart.

It may be that way with other tools

Something weird going on again with their discounts.

For me, the starter kit and jig saw come to $149 (one shipped, the other for pick up, return value for the kit is $84.50. For the jig is $64.50)

When I add the kit and router to my cart I get this:
  • RIDGID 18-Volt OCTANE Bluetooth 3.0 Ah Batteries (2-Pack) and Charger Kit with Tool Bag... Model #AC806... $95.84
  • RIDGID 18-Volt OCTANE Cordless Brushless Compact Fixed Base Router with 1/4 in. Bit, Round and Square Bases, and Collet Wrench... Model #R860443B... $73.16
Could I do this and then return the kit? Essentially getting the router for around half off?

The real deal here is in returning the batteries and getting the discounted bare tools. The battery kits can be had cheaper (on sale of course). I just got some 9Ah factory blemished (still has lsa) for $70 from direct tools ea and the 3Ah+6Ah kit for $99 clearance @ HD. I'm aware the clearance was a ymmv situation, but it goes on sale for that at other times (I got it earlier in the fall from home depot at that price with a similar promotion to this one)

I noticed this too. If you go through the HD website and click on the Cyber Week sale links, you can get a single-sku bundle that has both the battery kit and the bare tool, and the price is the proper $169.00. Adding the two items separately in my case came out to $179.00 for some reason.

Yes, just be aware that the battery kit (two batteries plus charger) will be eligible for the LSA, but the other two-pack of batteries will not be eligible.
