I think my kids would have really enjoyed this but I'm not willing to roll the dice this time.
Ordered for my son for Christmas. Apparently these come with a 75mah 3.7v battery soldered in so if you're ok with soldering you can pickup some extra batteries. I'm ordering a couple 100mah batteries from eBay as well to have on hand in case we have a DOA battery... 2 for $9 shipped in the U.S. isn't too bad.
As long as you can still download the app on the devices you want, I'd say this is worth it. Most likely the kids will get bored of it anyway after awhile. I'd certainly say we got more than $37 worth of fun out of ours the short time we played with it. My only complaint is really that it takes up too much space. Really needed a large dedicated floor space to leave it up to play on where people won't walk on it. We have no such area in our house or it would be up and running all the time.

I got these for my kid last year. An extra car, this set and the F&F set. Both sets had DOA cars, so we just kept buying and returning sets until we got all 5 cars to work. They still work great but would think it is a huge risk unless you just want the track and a working car is just a bonus.
Bought this last year from Target clearance. Both cars worked and we had a great time using it for a while. I'm looking to pick up 2 more cars to get 4 racers in the action at the same time.

Yep, and even if the app is removed from the Play Store, there are other places where you can download the apk. You would probably be SOL with the Apple app store, as there is no "official" way to install apps outside of jailbreaking.
The main issue would be with updating the firmware on the cars out of the box, as it's unclear who is running those update servers and how long they will be available.

Excellent tip. These full sets are starting to become more rare with each price drop, so if you get a dud the only options would be to return the whole thing or just replace the battery yourself.
