This is one of my all-time favorite books. It's long and covers the Beatles through 1962. You might think that makes for tedious reading but it's very well-written and researched, and it's one of those rare books I was sad to finish. I'm waiting for his next volume in the series. Today only (Kindle Daily Deal). 4.8 star rating on Amazon. First deal post so hope I got it right!

This is a good book, read it when it came out. The boys really had to work hard to be successful unlike many other bands who were immediately successful, like Pink Floyd.

True, however, Pink Floyd was doing something very novel (psychedelic/progressive rock) at the time and found a benefactor in Peter Jenner and Andrew King via Blackhill Enterprises. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Beatles start out doing mostly cover songs and took much longer to find their own sound?

Bought the book and look forward to reading it. Thanks for the deal.

Yes, correct on all counts. Beatles were a cover band, and Floyd was truly visionary.

This book answered all my questions about some of my favorite Beatles songs like, why did John's voice change in the middle of Strawberry Fields Forever, was the feedback in I Feel Fine intentional, what's the chord in the beginning of A Hard Day's Night, who did the lead in The End and While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Well, you get the idea. Treasure trove of anecdotes and trivia. Did not hesitate at all to buy the Kindle version.

The book ends in 1962 so it can't possibly answer those questions.

Goodness. For comparison, the Lord of the Rings: One Volume [amazon.com] e-book is 1209 pages. So, this book alone is officially 4/5ths the length of the combined LOTR trilogy.

Just something to keep in mind if you think this will be a quick read!

Yes, it's detailed. You'll learn things like the stories behind each of Ringo's rings. But the stories are interesting and give you an insight into the kind of person he is.

BTW, for the truly hardcore and well-funded Beatles fan, there's a paper Special Edition of this that's about twice as long and $130. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/produ...bl_vppi_i2

Another good read is "Maximum Volume: The Life of Beatles Producer George Martin, The Early Years, 1926–1966"

This is a fantastic book. Best Beatles biography you can get but just know that you have to wait for volume 2 to get any further than '62. I think they've just finished recording please please me at the end of this one. I did the audiobook and it was something like 30 hours but the narration was solid.
