No time machine, but pretty tough to go with $180 versus the $100 Google Fi deal that just ended.
Sorry don't mean to TC, but this is more of an PSA. I nearly pulled the trigger on this phone a week or so ago for the wife. If the lack of T-mobile bands, AMOLED screen and NFC is holding you back consider the Moto Z3 Play over at B&H.com for $150. If you can live with 32gb it can work out to a really good deal as it comes with a 3 month 12gb Mint Mobile SIM and two Moto Mod Shells.

I literally sold the Mint Mobile SIM and the Moto Shells in less than 24 hrs. last night on ebay and netted $41. I paid using Chase Freedom CC via PayPal for 5% off. All said and done the Z3 Play net cost was $113. If your State isn't charged tax you can get it closer to $100 if the eBay part works out for you as it did for me.
You didn't have to use the service; the phone is completely unlocked.

You could create an account, activate, cancel or just not renew ($20 more) and have a completely unlocked Moto G7 for $100-$120.

I think the UNLOCKED Z3 Play for $100.00 is the better deal. If the UNLOCKED Moto One Action ever hits the $150.00 mark with Verizon service I'm gonna jump on it.

Just to be sure, OP says $180 w/o Activation and site says $180 (Activate later). Does that mean it'll have to be activated with a major carrier to get that price or can one just add it to Tello now?

Not a bad phone for the price and specially when you can buy it for $180 unlocked without any hassle. Hope that moto would update this to Andorid 10, then this could be a strong mid ranger in 2020. But with no updates and G8 coming up, this will not be that much desirable even at a lower price!

Haven't seen any $100 Z3 Play deal, where can I find that?

Agree, my Moto X Pure is getting long in the tooth, and I was considering the G7 or the Z3 Play as a replacement. Ordered the Z3 Play from B&H yesterday for the reasons you noted, along with the fact that the Z3 has a more "premium" feel IMHO. As a side note, I find it discouraging that neither the G7 nor the Z3 Play, nor any other phones at this price point, have significantly better specs than my Moto X Pure which is 4 years old and was approx the same cost.

I bought a g7 power black Friday weekend for the same price 179.99, I love the battery life on the power, but if I saw this without buying the power I may have jumped on this one, maybe.

The additional memory is tempting. But the battery on the Power lasts so long, you can't go wrong with that either

It just means that you'll have to activate it with a carrier eventually, or it becomes a doorstop, or at best a WiFi only device. They are just trying to avoid semantics is all.
