Oh hi! There you are! Finally you're done scrolling through the description! Congrats!
Was just about to bite on 451, but then learned some facts:
- J1900 CPU circa 2013
- Passmark below 2000, so 1080p transcode only
- No AES-NI
- QSnatch malware still active and unresolved after a month.

TS453* seem like much better options.

Same price than BF deal on the 451+.Very fine deal. But, is this NAS outdated? It has been around sine 2015.

This seems to indicate that there are work arounds following security best practices. Also, I would never publish a NAS to the Internet.

Can this function with 3 drives usable and the fourth drive as a parity drive (a la SnapRAID/UnRAID)?

I know this happens with every Qnap and Synology post but I'm looking to replace my old macbook air (2010) which I use as my plex server that connects to my WDcloud drive to stream on-demand movies but it's annoying as because my macbook drops connection to my WDcloud and I don't want it the laptop on all the time so have to always go in the other room and wake it up, wait for it to connect, etc.

Would this work as my plex server? I stream 1080p movies.

Thanks!

From the info above, it sounds like this doesn't have the CPU horsepower to transcode a 1080p stream, so unless you have pre-converted all of your files and only use direct streaming it would not be sufficient.

It might work for 1 transcode.. you're better off buying an old PC for $100 and having plex run on it IMO. Cheaper, and you can transcode more. You just dont get redundancy built in. You could always use some software to backup drives though..
