Oof... How low can it go? Can the footage from this even be used in premiere without using the gopro app first?

You're right on, you have to stitch it with the go pro software first on your PC. Forget using it with the phone app, it will only show you what you have but not output any photos or videos. The phone app is useful for controlling the cam, though. I love it b/c that is my preferred workflow, but it's not everyone's preference.

Is there any way to use the footage when that gopro app is no longer supported?

You can stitch it in 264 (4k only), ProRes (up to 5.7k), or Cineform (up to 5.7k) format. I usually will export prores and then post process, then render in 264 or 265.
I do only keep the final and raw unstitched files though, and hope /expect the Fusion Studio software will continue to run locally even after this product reaches eol.

Have they improved this thing yet? Last I heard the software rendered it almost useless.

I got one last two weeks ago, but sold it this week. video and photo quality is not good. I updated the software but still the same. also take a lot of time to upload and edit through the fusion app on desktop. Its only good for making tiny planets, other than that its useless. Tends to be hot then just turns off by itself.

Save up and get the Max. This is a waste of money.

I returned my GoPro 360 after a week. It was the most awful editing/stitching program I ever used. You need a really powerful pc to even begin to start editing the footage this camera records. I have a dell i7 with an ssd and it couldn't handle it. I've smoothly edited 4K for a few years with this pc so my blame is 100% on the poor GoPro software.

I think I'm the minority in this case. I have one of these, it works as expected and I enjoy it overall, but its definitely not a consumer lvl product. You need a beefy PC with storage to really manage these files. And they dont work that well in low light (but most 360 camera's dont really)..

And the software is a pain, but once you get the files in premiere its more manageable if you're using proxies.

What makes this better than just strapping a dashcam to forehead?

different use cases in general, if youre looking for 360 footage to capture moments all around, you get a camera like this.

if you want a first person POV, then you go with dashcam on forehead

Too bad it's gone. This is still one of the best consumer 360 cameras on the market. Competes well with the newer GoPro Max and the Insta360 One X.

lol it doesn't compete with the insta 360 one x, and it only competes with the gopro max, because the gopro max is also terrible. The software and limitations in it ruin the camera. You cant even send a 360 photo downloaded from camera to app to a text message or private facebook message (samsungs old 360 cams can).. but you can share it publicly on your FB wall.. such half assed implementation. The files are stored in a locked location you cannot access without rooting the device.

I'm surprised we don't see a massive refurb/used market for these since I would bet ~50% of them are returned (while another 40% just sit collecting dust).
