The subscription is for online multiplayer and access to a rotating lineup of old nes games. It's completely optional. Your digital purchases will work with or without it, and are just tied to your free Nintendo account.
Doom on Xbox One $5 / Doom on Switch $30, come on man!
Octopath is amazing. If you liked the Style of the Old school Final Fantasy 8-16 bit games, this is a good one. The story is good. I will say one thing, dont start with Primrose, she s kinda useless and you dont get to swap the main choice character until you beat her story.

You don't need to pay for NSO to buy digital games. However, many games that have online multiplayer functionality need the NSO membership to participate in that feature of the game.

No need to have a subscription to purchase and download digitally purchased ganes. Only games with online features require a subscription. For example, playing Mario Kart or Splatoon 2 online.

Their online sub gives you access to a collection of NES and SNES games as well.

Does anyone have any recent experience with Lego Worlds? Initially it was buggy and laggy, and I wondered if anyone had any recent feedback or experiences. Thanks in advance for any info!

Interested in Octopath but I've read impressions online by a lot of people that make the game's story seem off-putting to me. Will probably eventually pick it up cheap but want to get it physical in case I play it and don't like it afterall.

I have not opened my daughter's Switch yet, can I make an account quick and buy digital games without the switch then tie them together in a few weeks?

Octopath is a great game. Beautiful retro inspired graphics with a modern touch, Great characters, and the battle system is the most fun I've ever seen in a turn based rpg. $35 is well worth it.

You have to open the switch and register it before you cna buy any digital games from nintendo directly. I just ran into this same issue the other day with the Monster Boy deal.
