random story about the author. i borrowed the "old man" series from a friend--so i didn't buy them. read them all--and really loved and respected the world Scalzi created--his story telling. actually reached out to him on his author website and offered to buy him a meal via paypal since he doesn't get any royalties via used book sales. after all, i think that's the future of publishing one day--a more direct connection between author and reader. and he actually wrote back and thanked me--he said instead of buying him a drink/meal, please donate a meal to someone in need, etc. very nice to get a human response and such a gracious one from mr scalzi.
That's how authors get paid. If the book hooks you in, isn't it worth paying for it?
I loved the ghost brigades. The rest of the series doesn't hold up to the first two books.

Thanks for this. I borrowed this awhile back and never got around to reading this, now is my chance. I heard it was excellent. The concept sounds great.

$48.94 plus tax for all 6 books in the series... Too many of these Kindle authors split up their books and try to hook you with the first book for cheap. I not taking the bait.EEK!

I couldn't put this book down, but for whatever reason I really struggled with his follow up, Ghost Brigades. GB just kind of bored me and I never finished it. How are the rest of the books in this series?

Also can anyone recommend any of his other books not of this series?

Would you still recommend reading them, or were they not worth the effort?
