Wow, how authentic is it in comparison to the original? i know a pacman enthusiast who would love this as an Xmas gift.
The cabinet is nowhere near authentic, the game itself is licensed, so I would hope it is the same as the original. The size, controls and monitor is what kills the authenticity. This thing is tiny for a stand-up cabinet.

It's actual the exact same size with the riser as the Cabaret models that they used to make as I have an old Pac-Man vintage Cabaret. And the monitor is actually slightly wider than my Cabaret. Of course neither is going to be as tall as a regular sized arcade model.
As far as the authenticity I think the Arcade1Up feels pretty much the same (I just recently bought one because my Cabaret died). The old patterns I learned decades ago still seem to work. And the marquee, control deck and sideart are pretty much the same as well. So to me it very much feels like I am playing a real arcade Pac Man.
And FWIW this is the cheapest these Pac Man models have been (I know because I check almost daily) and they are starting to go scarce as you can no longer order them directly from Walmart anymore for shipping. I just picked up the Rampage for $199 as well for the same reasons.
You can buy a riser for around 45 bucks that extends the height similar to a real cabinet height, they have gone on sale for as low as 11 dollars at some walmarts, but you arn't likely to find them at that price.
I have seen some in-store deals that have been cheaper than 200 for pacman although it seems to be very rare compared to other models.
These cabinets are decent to mod and put your own games on, tons of people and instructions on the arcade1up reddit page, just be aware that pac man is a vertical orientation for screen size, so if you were to mod it to play horizontal games aspect ratio could be off (assuming you don't physically rotate the screen)

As a owner of a real one, not even close. It's a cool toy, but basically nothing is "authentic ". My real one cost $50, had to clean it, rebuild monitor, do a swap for a working board as mine was dead. Then had to strip and paint control panel and coin door, installed new overlay on control panel, rebuilt fuse block and joystick, then new marquee light (ballast, starter, and bulb). Sounds like a lot, but cost wise, not much. I enjoy bringing them back to life. Has been a few years, still going strong.

The "authentic" thing would weight like 1000 pounds and cost an arm and a leg if you could find them. Get outta here. By now the A1up's are well known and accepted as great for what they are. They have a massive facebook group and several cottage industries built around modding them for example. The haters failed, leave.

cool, as soon as you start mass producing those for $50 post a link.
and you couldn't pay me to take the lunker. at least i can move around my a1up, which i modded to have hundreds of games.
biggest problem is the cheap controls, specifically the joysticks, but supposedly they're better in the newer versions.
i'll replace mine with sanwa joysticks, which are about 20 bucks each.
The modding scene on these is crazy, people do some amazing projects with them.

A real arcade cabinet weighs 200-300 pounds, not sure what planet you live on. That proves you have no clue what you're talking about. Move along now.
