To make this deal sweeter, the electric company in IL, ComEd offers $50 rebate on an Energy Star certified air purifier (up to 6). I purchased this 200M and got the email saying the rebate is granted. Check your electric company.

Wow gotta look that up.

Now it's a matter of getting this one or the winix 5500-2.

Just an FYI if you have someone in your home that suffers from asthma in addition to allergies. These air purifiers have ionizers as the 4th stage of filtration. Ionizers cause small amounts of ozone to be generated that can negatively affect breathing, especially in asthma sufferers. If you, or someone you care about suffers from asthma, look for an air purifiers with just a HEPA filter and no ionizer.

Good to know.

I think this can turn off the ionizer as needed

Can anyone confirm that the ionizer can be turned off on this thing and that it'll still be worthwhile to have?

Reading the specs on the manufacturers website, I cannot confirm that it can be turned off. It states that the indicator light can be turned on/off, but not specifically the ionizer. Poor description on their part. Hopefully someone can confirm if in fact the ionizer can be turned off.

This website described turning on "the optional ionizer"

It looks like the ionizer can be turned off since it has a dedicated button on top...

Yes, it's a separate mode that doesn't turn on by default. I have two of the 1512s. As an asthmatic, haven't had any issues with the ionizer/ozone, even with one of these 24-7 in my bedroom.
