Do not use medium or hard bristled toothbrushes! Ask ANY dentist or dental hygienist. Just don't.

Soft. People brush too hard which causes gum recession

Electric brushes are not too soft but they do flash a red led if you push too hard so I guess your technique might be wrong although you're kinda of right;

with the reason being that you can use a firm brush just as long as you don't push into the gum and just run it over the gum, which in that case, calls for a firm brush in my opinion.

This soft vs medium debate is interesting my oral surgeon gave me a soft toothbrush and told me to only brush the surgical area with a soft brush because it's like a mop and doesn't do anything for your other teeth. That sounds about right because how can you remove plaque and tartar buildup if you don't have a strong enough brush? Also, what happens if you eat something sticky or gooey like cheese? A soft brush would barely do the job in those cases IMO.

Your "opinion" doesn't matter. The ADA recommends soft brushes
