Deluxe will do it. Don't fall for the deceptive charts that Block creates. They make it appear that you need Premium for self employment and rental income when Deluxe handles it all. Their marketing department is just a sliver away from doing outright fraud the way they word and push for higher versions.

Here is the full list of forms that Deluxe covers and if you situation is on the list Deluxe will do the return.


That will cover just about all your average taxpayers. It even handles some quite obscure situations. The need for higher versions comes in for corporations and partnerships.

The higher versions do sometimes offer more "guidance", whatever that means, but I can tell you from personal experience that Deluxe will guide you right along with the walkthrough for self employment income and deductions including depreciation. Same for Schedule E with rental income.

Why does this feel like a product placement in the forums?
The thing you need to remember is that you are consenting to have ALL of your personal information put into a database that you will never have control over, and have that information sold repeatedly to anyone willing to pay.
Just because they put some paragraph that says they will protect your data doesn't bind them to do it, unless you pay them, then it is a contract.
And most people forget that all your tax services are deductible and so is the cost of the software.

I know there will be unique financial situations for everyone and some of those financial situations will require a more comprehensive tax software but I am hoping the majority of SD'ers are using Credit Karma's free tax service for Federal and State...

H&R Block gives you a 60 day download period for the software. For an additional $5.99 they will extend the download period to 2 years. You can avoid the cost by having the cd or by backing up the downloaded file in case of future computer crash.
