Editor's Notes & Price Research

Written by
  • Centuries before the events of A Game of Thrones, House Targaryen—the only family of dragonlords to survive the Doom of Valyria—took up residence on Dragonstone. Fire & Blood begins their tale with the legendary Aegon the Conqueror, creator of the Iron Throne, and goes on to recount the generations of Targaryens who fought to hold that iconic seat, all the way up to the civil war that nearly tore their dynasty apart.
  • Our research indicates that Fire & Blood: 300 Years Before Game of Thrones is $12 less (75% savings) over the regular price of $15.99.

Just FYI, this reads like a history book and does not have a plot with characters.
So instead of finishing winds of winter and dream of spring, he's been writing up these prequels??
There's been a ton of good and bad discussion on why people went sideways regarding the final season, so I'll make my take brief: I would weigh more on the side of how they got to the finish line over the final result (Although I was not pleased with their slapdick logic to crowning "Bran the Broken"). They had to wrap it up in a finite time and glossed over a lot to get there. In doing so, they satisfied few.

He's written himself into a corner with too many divergent plot lines. There's a reason why WoW is taking so long and at this point I'll be surprised if the last book ever gets released.

Especially when GRRM has not budged off needing just two books to wrap up the series. I agree that he will not complete the series, but I do think he's far along enough with WoW that it will get published (Even if it's posthumously).

Totally agree from everything I've read and intuited. That and the cold reception to the end of GOT has him re-writing elements.

Yeah but that cold reception was silly. It was clear that Danaerys was cracked for a long time.

Also, be aware that this is apparently the first book in a two book series, and all things GRRM considered, who knows if he'll ever write the second.

This is what happens when a major media player takes your work and f--ks it up to no end for profit.

Um, the show thoroughly diverged from the books by season 5. There's no reason to assume the path they took to the ending remotely resembles what Martin has in store.

Show ending was rushed, total crap. It was like that for at least the last season for sure.
