When it comes down to it, the phone is terrific. It is the best Android experience per the usual and still has the best camera regardless of a "missing" wide angle lens.
Whether that is worth it to you is not for me to decide nor a "professional" reviewer to decide. Real world experience is all that matters. I'd take this phone over any phone every single day and twice on Sunday. It just works that well. Oh and that camera. That sweet glorious camera.

The reviews have NOT said that. The reviews basically said it should have a wide angle camera and that Motion Sense is in its infancy so there isn't much there yet. They just don't think it is worth $800+. But when you buy it correctly (not the first month), you get anywhere from $150 to $300 off for the unlocked phone. It is worth every penny of that. It is an awesome phone.
There has also been a lot of mention of poor battery life, especially on the smaller size. I personally wish it kept the fingerprint reader rather than the face unlock.
Every Pixel gets discounted after the first month. This is not something new with the 4. "Professional" reviewers' opinions should be taken with a grain of salt. The bottom line is they don't like the price. That is ALWAYS the case with every Pixel. If the release of the Pixel was early in the year with its current specs, there would be less complaining. They always release last of the year when other phones are about to launch. So "professional" reviewers always thinks it has yesterday's specs, should have more blah blah blah, should be cheaper, etc.

I love the face unlock. It is insanely fast and accurate. A couple important apps for me have already been updated for face unlock as well since launch. I have zero battery life issues with the XL. I get over 5 hours of screen on time. I can't comment on the regular 4 from a real world experience perspective.
