Lowe's B&M, YMMV: CRAFTSMAN 243-Piece Mechanics Tool Set for $75

Lowe's linky is for reference only. Shows $100 on website and BS.

My local store had 3 in stock, priced at $75. Lowe's website and BS showed none in stock, with a price of $100 even though there are two more left in the store. EDIT: Brickseek is now showing the updated price of $75, but still shows OOS in my local store, even though I physically saw them in stock 15 minutes ago.

Looks like 174 real tools and 69 driver bit/fillers... Craftsman quality has been progressively getting worse year over year. Are these made in USA, Taiwan or China?

I'm pretty sure it's a Chinasian product. Yup, lots of filler with the allen wrenches, nut drivers et al. Still, $0.43 each for the "real" tools (including three ratchets, extensions and adapters) is a fair deal. I haven't checked HF, but I would imagine this set could be cobbled together with HF tools for about a hundred bucks.

Are you saying Taiwan isn't a part of China?
Only the human rights black hole that is the PRC thinks that it is. Other nations kowtow to them and that travesty.

This or Kobalt 227 or 200?
I have Kobalt 200 coming via delivery @ $70, tool chest not really necessary but nice. Looking for a complete tool list on this Craftsman.

These are made in China by Stanley Black and Decker* (who bought the brand from Sears in 2017). SBD is opening up a plant in Fort Worth Texas to make hand tools for the Craftsman brand. That plant should be online in late 2020.

*Not to be confused with Sears Craftsman tools, whose sockets and ratchets are currently made in China by Apex Tool Group. When they sold the brand to SBD, they retained the right to keep using it for 15 years after the sale. So the Craftsman found in Sears these days is completely different from the Craftsman found at Lowe's and Amazon.

Very cool information...

And, shhaggy, yes that is exactly what I'm saying the Republic of Taiwan is NOT a part of the PRC... And frankly, Hong Kong shouldn't be either since PRC seems to have trouble respecting the rights that they agreed to when HK was given back to them by the UK.

FWIW, they (SBD) also owns Mac Tools, Irwin, Proto, Porter Cable, and everyone's beloved DeWalt. Yup, SBD owns and manufactures DeWalt power and hand tools.

Yep. These SBD Craftsman sockets are basically identical to the Dewalt sockets, even down to the weird switch in how they do the detent as the socket sizes go up, and what size they change at. The only real differences are the rolled markings. The ratchets are different though. I have 72 tooth versions of each and the Dewalt has a much smaller head, with smaller pawl and finer teeth, but a smaller bore for the release pin so probably actually a bit stronger than the Craftsman version, since the square drive will usually snap on quick release ratchets before the teeth give and sheer.

Public Service Announcement:
If all you want is sockets and wrenches, then stop complaining that general-use tool sets include things other than sockets and wrenches and spend your time looking for socket sets and wrench sets instead.
