In the west, however we ended up calling these sofa beds "futons", despite being pretty different.
Kinda like how the Hibachi chain restaurants are actually just Teppanyaki restaurants.

The OCD in me would be more concerned that the rear legs are straight while the front are slanted.

Traditionally, a futon is actually a Japanese style mattress that can be aired, folded and stored away in the closet. The frame that turns into a couch is not the futon—the bedding is.
