It's a TN panel for those wondering and a bad one at that.

Oh does the $250 laptop not meet your $500 expectations?

So the Walmart Motile with IPS is a better buy, even if single-channel RAM.

Either motile or acer slim 5 from amazon. Acer slim 5 has a brighter ips display than the motile. 285 vs 240 nits. Motile is a lot more portable.

Avoid the asus.

A quick note, windows 10 S mode is just a setting in windows. It can be turned to regular windows in a few clicks

As someone who bought a supposedly high-ish end ($1000) Lenovo 3 years ago, which ended up having one of the 230 nits brightness screens, I can tell you it makes using the computer very annoying unless you are in a pretty dim environment. You'll basically keep it on max brightness always and just pray that it's enough, or that your eyes will adjust over time.

Sometimes people think screens on laptops aren't a big deal, until you realize it's all you look at haha a bad screen is a deal breaker.

Got this for my nephew for Christmas. It has regular Windows 10 on it, NOT S Mode. It's actually a good little laptop for day-to-day use; maybe just add another 4GB stick if you want to do some multitasking.

Totally get your point, but a bad screen is a bad screen...at any price.
