This thing is a POS. I was only receiving 25% of my average speed, and dual band capability did not work for me. The price keeps dropping from $35-40 to $25 to $15 for a reason. These are refurbished because so many people have returned them.
Used it with a tp-link archer c8. Works flawlessly. Range could be a bit better though, and to the people complaining about lost speed...................do you even know what you're buying? This will half your network speed by adding ANY wireless repeater, and it's ac 750. I suggest next time you research what you're buying. I get 90 mbps with a 15 ms ping, and of course extended wifi. I'm content.
I bought this last week from amazon to use it with POE camera. The purpose of it wasn't to use WiFi off of it, but rather have it connected to my network while it's plugged in in garage and then connect POE camera with CAT6. I haven't had any problems or issues yet.
As for WiFi speed I don't agree that it dropped. I have AirPort Extreme and if I'm standing in the same area as the TP link extender, I get faster speeds on TP link. For example, if I'm connected to my AirPort Extreme, I'm getting around 40mb/s down but if I connect to TP link, I'm getting 69mb/s down. So the speed is faster in the area I'm at.
Now if I move away from it about 20ft, the speed drops to 25mb/s down.
For my purpose it works just fine. I needed to get internet to my POE camera and that was the cheapest best option and it works fine without any problems yet.
One negative is the Ethernet port location is on the bottom of the device, which blocks the second outlet. Keep that in mind.
I had 2 before switching to Orbi. Never had drops or disconnects but was definitely slow!
How's ur orbi experience and which one u get? Rocking the rbk50 and installed a couple rbk40 for parents and in laws. Love them so far but I'm cautiously optimistic

I got a refurb RBK43, router & 2 large satellites. Defy overkill for my house size! I've read not to upgrade firmware updates right away because they could be buggy. Other than that works great and really fast WiFi!

I've had mine for a while and haven't had trouble at all with firmware updates but only have about 15 devices at a time on 1 router 2 sat. I did add a wall plug to my rbk50 setup and no hiccups and ur right its Def overkill but it's nice to have crazy coverage when u need it.
I've got a couple of these. They work well if you stay within your main router's signal area. If you move too far away, the RE220 gets flaky. The Tether app works very well in setting up the unit. At our marina, this works wonders for my streaming video on my boat.
