I had this printer when I was in school. Good printer, photos come out great . But the ink costs more than the printer itself

Wait , is this a monochrome printer? That would explain the price. Terrific deal if it is a full-colour printer though

Correct.

Also, if you don't use it for extended period of time, the cartridges will dry out and you need to buy new ones.

Laser is the way proper to go.

It is a full color printer. Connects wireless even! Great for when guests are over and they need to prints. (Just need to be connected to same WiFi)

It's worth noting that the ink provided in the box is a sample size of ink, so don't expect to get too far with it. It's still a good price if you need a scanner and a few prints out of the box. Last time I checked, Sam's Club carried a set of high yield replacement cartridges for around $35.

People, refilling ink cartridges yourself is cheap and easy. And, bonus, this printer (or rather its predecessor MG2522) has been the best printer for refilling cartridges in my experience. I have been doing this for many years. Bulk ink is relatively cheap and they sell complete kits with syringes on eBay.

Do you know if you can refill the factory cartridges with your own ink without any problems?

The last time I tried refilling my own cartridges was over a decade ago. It was such a sloppy mess, I vowed never again, so I honestly don't know.

I haven't refilled this specific ink, but ive been refilled the mp211 and 210 for about 5 years now and just barely started getting issues with my ink smearing, but I think this has more to do with the ink reservoir filling and requiring servicing. But as for the refilling , I just bought 1L bulk bottles of black cyan magenta and yellow for about 40 bucks and have just been using that to refill my cartridges myself. The only issue I've found is that if you refill cartridges too many times, the ink quality degrades, so I suggest only reusing them 3-4 times before getting a new cartridge

It scans over WiFi out of the box even with MacOS. WiFi is fairly stable so far. print quality is absolutely low end ink jet but sufficient for an occasional shipping label. For $19 with a very rare need of hard copies i jumped on it and did not get a laser. It's one of those things that escalate quickly: you buy a laser costing 5-10 times more to avoid potential ink cost that probably never come.
