I have no idea if this is slick or not, but when I see 70" TVs on sale for $350 or whatever insanely cheap price they have dropped to, a 9.7" LED picture frame for $150 bucks seems rediculous - I would have guessed something like this be $20.
My grandparents are hitting there 50th anniversary in a few months and i think something simple like this would be a great gift idea, what level of upkeep would this thing need? like does it have to be charged from time to time or is it wired?

If you're not too worried about privacy issues with Google (specifically Google Photos), then I highly recommend getting them a Google Home Hub or equivalent. Constant updates to photos based on whatever is uploaded to Google Photos at ZERO effort after initial set-up.
I got my in-laws the 10" Lenovo Smart Display and they love it. I allowed Google Photo's facial recognition AI so that the display shows photos of them, a few of their close friends, and some members of the family (e.g., grand child), and they get to see live updates of any new photos on the display all the time. They're NOT tech savvy, so they're amazed by the near instant updated photos with no effort on their part.
FWIW you can get an iPad 3rd gen (same size and resolution) for ~$50 used. It's stuck at iOS 9.3.5 but can easily be connected to iTunes and your photos uploaded. Probably a way to stream photos to it too for "unlimited storage"
Yeah, that must be what justifies the $120 overprice.....Given the alternatives available, this looks like a dreadfully overpriced item......
Unless you only want a device for Photo Frame and exact features for it. Sure those other devices can do more, but they have built in data collection and services to profit off of you. A Photo Frame, not so much.

Was just browsing the amazon lightning deals, this one came up https://www.amazon.com/urlhasbeen...EMDCRJFMHH
$39 for an 8 inch version......pretty sure Amazon can't collect data through it either......
bottom line is this price is just way out of line, at least this thread is down to a zero vote now although it deserves to go negative

Not even remotely close. There's a market for everyone.

Why wouldn't someone get a 10" Home Hub that actually does things?
