I found a review that mentioned field of view is quite a bit less on the 3rd generation, no specific motion zones on the 3rd gen, lack of POE on 3rd gen, and video quality may be a bit less on 3rd gen.
I'd prefer the Ring cams with removable batteries because weather extremes seem to be hard on outdoor camera batteries. My Canary outdoor cam started having battery issues after a year with no way to change the battery.
I want to order these because it's a good deal, but I just spent too much on the Ring alarm and smart lighting over the holidays.

Me too, kinda pissed they're now introducing the solar pathway lights.
2nd Gen can connect to 5GHz network, 3rd Gen can't.
2nd Gen has 3 motion zones, 3 Gen only 1. With 3 zones you can shut 1 or 2 off. For example, maybe you have a tree that triggers alarms when the wind blows. You can turn off that zone with the 2nd Gen. This is the biggest difference for me.
As another poster noted, the 2nd Gen can use PoE (power over internet) but the 3rd Gen can't.
The 2nd Gen has a 115 horizontal/65 vertical field of view. The 3rd Gen has 110/57. The camera in the 2nd Gen can see more.
Basically, the 3rd Gen is a step back in pretty much every category.
They had to do something to get price from $180 to $100 each. I have a bunch of new 2nd gen in box from Costco, trying to decide if I want to install the wired 2nd gen or wireless 2nd gen and the wired from side by side comparison is significantly better than even the 2nd gen wireless.

With wired ones, there are more zone customizations.

Can you elaborate as to why?
