There are tons of videos on the YouTube on installation of mirror DashCam. I would say this is not too easy but not too difficult, all depends on how handy you are.

Crappy. I'm a fan of the DR02d dual system, but not this. Look in Deal Talk for the previous thread.

Depends on your car really. I installed it on my 2002 VW Golf but decided to keep the rear cam inside the car pointing out because taking off my rear bumper is too much hassle (I'd have to remove my taillights and bumper to get to the place where you'd stick the camera by the license plate). Other cars are much easier.

The other "difficult" part is running the wires along the sides of your car. You pretty much jam the wires in the rubber or plastic sides, or under the carpet. I'm really happy with mine and find it useful when parking is suspicious areas or when driving in case someone hits me.

Looking for a backup mirror/ dashcam that looks OEM (not these cheap looking clip-ons). Any recommendations?

X1 pro updated version, amazon will have in stock in February third week as per current status. It is $299 but has $20 clip-on coupon. Reviews are very good. It will replace your factory mirror. Also you will need to hardwire in fuse box. Installation is of course more involved.

X1PRO Rear View Mirror Dash Cam 9.88" Full Touch Screen Dual Lens with 1296P Front and 720P Super Night Vision Stream Media Backup Camera kit, WDR,LDWS, GPS Tracking,Auto-Brightness Adjusting https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CMK7...gEbFAV4NR2

My budget is under $100 so going for this Aukey. They have 45 day return and also 2 years warranty. If it turns out worse than expected then I will return it.

The x1 looks nice, but ouch on the price. I'll have to think on that one. Thanks.

Spending that much for that resolution is nuts.

Those mirrors with dashcams may not last. If the screen or one of the cameras dies you have to replace the whole thing. If you need a budget solution (less than $150) that's reliable, I'd recommend to get 2 separate dash cams with AV-out (like the Aukey DR02 or Viofo) for front and rear. Run the video out cable from the rear cam to your head unit (w/ LCD screen and RCA input) or a small LCD screen like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01K1U7LU0/

Or make it much more simple: Aukey DR02d. 1 sd card, 2 small cameras front and rear. Or the similar Viofo unit (with a crappier warranty).

I don't think the DR02D has AV-out, right? The 1.5" screen is too small to be used as a backup camera screen. Also when the DR02 is on sale, 2 x DR02s is cheaper than the DR02D.

No backup cam, but I'd rather have a good separate system for that rather than one that skimps on one thing or another. And not everyone can do what you're doing with the head unit, or need to if the car already has a factory backup cam.

But there are advantages to the DR02d: time coded dual recordings on one card, optional $20 GPS antenna encodes that info on both recordings. less to go wrong, easier to install.

So what is your suggestion for backup camera and monitor? Assuming the car doesn't have factory backup camera or screen monitor. Something below $100? This thing is dual DashCam and backup monitor. I am interested in knowing options. TIA

I'd be looking at a separate backup camera system. I don't have one so can't comment.

Perhaps start here: https://www.autoguide.com/top-15-...up-cameras

And don't believe Amazon reviews unless you run them through Fakespot and ReviewMeta.

Note that many rear view mirror-based units (like this Aukey) don't have auto-dimming. Many other cheapos don't have backup lights for night reversing.
