These packs use 18650 cells, hence the size and weight.
Here's discharge graphs for the 10,000 and 20,000 mAH packs. These are the real deal, Monoprice is not inflating their capacity unlike other companies. I'll update this with a graph of their 13,000 mAH pack once I complete that test. Note that when I recharged these packs, they took in as many mAH as their rating (the charge circuit is linear, so mAH in = mAH into the cells). Another indication that these packs are legit.

Added the discharge plot for the 16,000 mAH pack. (note the text on the graph is wrong)

These are 10 watt input, 10 + 5 watt output "slow" charging battery packs. While charging them from empty is gonna take a long time, they're great deals if you don't mind the wait.

It really doesn't matter how long it takes to charge your phone since you can bring the battery pack with you, and it's not gonna be any slower if your phone is above 60 percent anyways.
This was my thought as well. A quick search proved fruitless... so I ordered the 10k and 16k and will do a teardown and capacity test myself(banking on it using 18650's given the size and weight). Also people need to remember that EVERY company advertises nominal capacity and you're always going to have to do the math to find the actual capacity based on efficiency.

But there's a big difference between a device getting 90% of rated capacity due to efficiency losses, and a device getting 40% because they use dummy cells filled with sand [wp.com] or no cells at all.
Based on the size I am guessing this uses 8 18650 cells.

16,000/8=2,000
20,000/8=2,500
27,200/8=3,400

Those are all standard capacities for 18650 cells. So as the representative said, they didn't have to make it heavier, so why would they?

They are absolutely beastly. That might be my one caveat for these things. They are very heavy.

Not PD. If you dont mind waiting, then these are a good price. But if you need a quick charge, go get something else.

Charge via a micro-USB. With new phones using type-C, this would be a hassle, carrying two cables (or cable + type-C adapter)

Agree. Looks like the USB C version is on sale too but it's not cheap enough to make me bite: https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=30884

Comparing the sizes, the 10k is smaller and lighter but the 16k and 20k are both the same size and weight according to their website. I'm in for a 10k one. Doesn't matter if they lack the latest bells and whistles. These cheap throw away battery banks are great for keeping the kids tablet alive a bit longer when you just need to maintain the peace. Thanks OP.

Just ordered and it is being shipped by Amazon a RAVPower branded 20000 mAh. I paid $24 and this is definitely a better deal. I am not doing a return and buy this.
Alas, the white 20,000ma Monoprice power bank is out of stock great price of $20 and with the PB5 discount code it would be only $15; but not if its not in stock unfortunately.
