You will likely receive the gen 2 model which is higher priced.
Lowe's uses the model number 14294 for both gen 1 and gen 2.
To confirm it wasn't just an inventory pull mistake.
Afterwards scanned the UPC of a gen 1 and gen 2 box with the Lowe's app. Both UPCs take you to the same product page. 14294
The difference here is dimmer vs on/off, don't buy dimmers if you lights do not support dimming you will not have a good time.
3/4/5-way scenarios:
- GE: Need Add-On switch(~$20 each), has benefits such as switches should be a closer match, dim control from add-on, add-on is paddle button instead of traditional rocker
- Zooz: ZEN26/ZEN27 are the newer models and have direct 3/4/5-way, ie replace main switch in the 3-way config and it works, dumb switches can only be on/off so no dimming with the ZEN27
- Inovelli: There new dimmers don't require a neutral wire and have a RGB bar on the side of the switch that can customized or used for notifications (IE turn red when door is unlocked), these can also be used with dumb 3-way switches but the dumb switch needs to be rewired, or they can be used with the GE add-on switch if you need the dimming at all locations.
Personally, I recommend the Zooz for 3+-way for its simplicity, Inovelli in areas that I spend a lot of time awake in and can see the switch like living room/office or where an at a glance notification could be useful, and the GE switches when they are cheap enough in single gauge boxes with no 3+-way.

Gen 2 is better.
Supports double tap, smaller size, line/load sensing and secure pairing.
Only reason to get gen 1 is the reduced price. Like right now you can gen 1 used from amazon warehouse for $21.21
There is a 20% discount.
I have a mix of gen 1 and gen 2.
The double tap comes in handy controlling lamps with RGBW bulbs.

I have read a lot of negativity about gen 2, I forget actually what, real helpful right, but I thought consensus was to stick with gen 1? I thought gen 1 had the double tap ability, guess not. Thanks
Yes. Scenes etc just more automation. Super handy
There have been many generations of GE Z-wave dimmer switches, and many model numbers - I have some that do not require neutrals - so simply stating just gen 1 or gen 2 can be confusing.

3-WAY READY – The smart device operates perfectly on its own or seamlessly integrates into multi-switch setups with required add-on switches – models 12723 or 46199. Up to four add-on switches can be connected to the same device.

Gen 1 and gen 2 is how the manufacture refers to the current versions of this model using Z-Wave Plus.
Whereas any previous versions were Z-Wave like models in the 12xxx series and are not referenced as gen 1 or gen 2.
