Life Hacker has a review on 3 amcrest 8MP cameras. While it is not as detailed as I like, it does give you an good idea of what to expect in terms of image capture at different ranges.

The vendor here has 83% feedback in the last 30 days. This is also the 5th lightning deal at this price since Nov. 30 so I don't think you're missing anything by waiting for a different vendor (if you don't need this right now).

These are actually great cameras even at normal price so saving 20 bucks is very much appreciated, Even if it's not the lowest price it's ever been. Value is value, these have one of the highest quality picture you're going to find at even twice the price. This being the 2.8 mm, it has a nice wide view, in most cases preventing the need for another camera you would otherwise need to cover the same area.

The 2.8 is good for the overview but you actually WILL need another camera if you want to ID a perp.

Being that the 2.8 is a wider view...is the image quality a bit downgraded from the 4.0 cameras? Or is it skewed/stretched a bit?

Do any of you have any experience with this camera and motion in the dark? Is the image quality good with moving objects in the dark or not very good?

Thanks in advance.

I have two of these, they are amazing at low light. I'm probably gonna grab another.

I understand what you're saying but this is a deal forum so naturally the price is my focus. The discount here is marginal and available on average once every 8 days. There isn't a compelling reason to overlook the significant likelihood of having a poor experience with this merchant with only 83% positive feedback in the last 30 days.

The picture quality is the same, just a wider fov, it's not a fisheye effect though.

I was hoping to upload a video from mine but blue Iris either compresses the heck out of it or dumps the full hour of video which takes 4gb. I have one of this exact model and two of the bullets. Side not given the choice get these as they are easier to position where you want them. Also I would prefer to have the 4mm instead of the 2.8 mm as the angle is really wide but the image is not destorted at least.

To your question about light. In my front yard I have a street light. The one on the corner of my house I do not use the infrared lights as it provides enough light to see in the dark. The one on my front door I run the lights so the porch is lit up better as any one walking up at night would be back lit. The camera in the backyard no lights and the or lights are definitely needed. I can see my back porch well and my almond colored dog in a little ways in the yard but if he goes to far back he can be hard to see. I'd say in my case probably about 25-30 feet is the range I can get there.

Thanks for the feedback on the 3 cameras you have. At night, is the motion pretty clear, for example, your dog and/or people? Or are action shots not as clean in the dark? Thanks again.

The reason I ask is because I've read elsewhere that some people say these are good for dark areas with "still" shots, nothing happening, etc....but don't perform as expected with "action" shots. Either the image then gets blurry, choppy, etc.

Thanks again.
