Saw this offer popped up when I tried to check out:

Get $15 Off When You Redeem Citi ThankYou Points.
https://www.amazon.com/b?node=18198682011

- Click on the button to activate this promotion credit and apply points to your next order. Note that you will NOT receive the credit unless you click on this button.
- ADD $50 OR MORE of eligible products sold and shipped by Amazon.com to your shopping cart.
- Your Citi ThankYou Points will be temporarily set as your payment method at checkout. To redeem this offer, you must pay for at least a portion of your order with Citi ThankYou Points.

$15 of savings will be reflected on the final order checkout page if the items in your order are eligible for the promotion credit.

I successfully purchased a $50 gift card with $35 payment.

Not sure when the offer will expire - "This promotion starts at 12:00am PST on August 1, 2019 and ends on the earlier of (i) at 11:59pm PST on 12/31/2019, or (ii) when 31,096 offers have been redeemed, or (iii) when Amazon elects to end the promotion"
If you take advantage of an offer on our site, Slickdeals may receive a commission.

The problem I have with using Citi points on Amazon or Best Buy, is we roughly give up over 20% of the true value if buying items with points. It's much better to go to Citi rewards and buy gift cards full price. And then just have them emailed to u. Takes like 5 minutes. I tried redeeming on several things on both sits and it's stupid that the points values are 20-30% less than actual value

You don't need to use Citi points for the entire purchase. Just apply one point to transaction and you should still get the $15 discount. I transferred 100 Citi Thank You points ($0.80) to Amazon, and applied $0.01 or 1 point and it still gave me the full discount

You only need to redeem 1 point to get the discount, and that's all you should redeem since you are correct that you get atrocious value when redeeming them for merchandise. Anybody redeeming points for the entire purchase price rather than redeeming 1 point for the discount is getting got.
