This is a great deal. I spent a year or so in Spain and some things are better than in the US and some things are not as good. Instead of claiming inferiority or superiority why don't we all just critically think about what works/doesn't work there as well as here.

In response to the first commenter you won't be judged if you don't act like a stereotypical loud fat American and people don't really care if your Canadian or not. In response to the second... Most Europeans really really don't want to be American. At all. Most people, even in those places you call shit holes, love where they're from.

Back to the deal... Great deal, Barcelona rocks, pretty much all of Spain is worth checking out. If you're a jingoist or insecure about being American go ahead and stay home.

Edit: Welp, this is a little bit awkward as both the posts I was referring to have been removed - but happy trails and hope someone gets a nice trip out of this!
I really recommend if you stay in the city and going for the first time that you go for a meal at el corte ingles plaça de catalunya. The view there is very nice and the food is good. Koyo is a great Japanese restaurant on carrer de sants, really cheap and really good you can eat enough there for a whole day, just don't go too late because it gets pretty full. Another thing, be mindful of the time because the eating schedule is different there as you know.
Enjoy your trip, ignore trolls. Bon viatge!
Don't bother reading Dave's long post, it's useless except that the trains and subways in Europe are fantastic, use them!

We just got back from 2 weeks in Spain, loved it! Drove around to some small towns and also enjoyed Madrid and Barcelona!

When you find out the rest of the world is a 3rd world shit hole and wonder why you went to spend money in other places.. Just to find that they are racist bigots that hate people they don't know... well behind the times, rember when traveling everyone wants to be american, and trys speak english based on old sitcom's.

There's a reason it costs nothing to go from the usa to other countries... Fewer people are wanting to take chances outside of the Greatest country in the world.

I went to Barcelona in March of last year. Perfect weather! Sunny skies and temp never got warmer than mid 60s Fahrenheit. Don't bother renting a car. Walk as much as you can. You can get a T10 transport ticket valid for 10 trips on just about any form of public transport to get anywhere else in the city. Best vacation I ever had with the wife and kids.

When Americans go to Europe for the first time to see what a real First World region looks like compared to our 3rd world. Europeans are very enlightened and in many ways superior compared to Americans. There's even mass transit thats even easy for Americans to comprehend that'll take you from train to train even if you want to travel to Frankfurt or Paris (these are in neighbouring countries, google search 'European map' so you can see what Europe even looks like.

Just my suggestion is that a lot of Europeans think of Americans as fat and stupid so your best bet is to just try not being you but rather Canadians or people that wont shout and scream in public squares. Coming from the other side of the pond, I can assure you that as an American you will be judged, especially if you travel to Germany or France from Spain.

Edit: I'm already judging you all before you even buy a ticket. Anecdotally, train to Paris from Barcelona canceled without notifying. Everyone at the station pissed off and rush to airport to catch a flight even though Renfe decided weeks beforehand to not service the route. Don't expect similar customer service in the states there FYI. They refunded the ticket fares but the last minute flight tickets were more expensive than this deal even, per person.
