It is working fine for me.

Camera was "terribly reviewed" only due to the launch price of $1400. At that price for many people it doesn't offer enough benefits to beat a6400 with could be found for $500-600 less. Felt overpriced.
Current sale price (with EDU) on BH is only $110 more for a6600 over a6400. For $918 (for A6600) vs $808 (for A6400) the choice is pretty obvious. It's a great deal. We probably will see further discounts on A6400 some time soon (maybe), but if you want a6600 that would be probably the best price for a while.
You can pay $3-7 for edu account and save hundreds.
Over the A6500 you get the new improved AF, improved processor, improved menu system, better grip, MUCH better battery life (2.2x), no video record limit. You do lose the built in the flash.
Over the A6400 you get IBIS, better battery, better grip...
FYI, I don't have EDU account but my Greentoe offer was accepted this morning for a good deal as well (though not as good as the EDU price). I bought a used A6500 a couple weeks ago but threw out this offer just in case before my return window closes for the 6500.

Decided to not get the a6600.
Your decision might be different though.
