What's the appeal of these shoes aside from the colors. I've owned several pairs and they are never comfortable and they don't last long. Glue wears out, seams open. I'm honestly asking. Have I just been fated to receive duds?

I don't quite understand why they are almost always so comfortable to me, but they are. Despite my podiatrist telling me they aren't good for some conditions I have. Yet, quite comfy.
They also tend to last pretty decent for me, especially the Chuck 70's, so maybe you have dud luck if they fall apart on you.

Happened to me as well. I still wear them even with seams coming apart. Has lasted me long enough that I feel I got my money's worth.

This brand is what dominated the pros, colleges and hschools up until 1983-85ish-(trying to remember MJ's rookie year) Jordan came along as a rookie and signed his nike deal for 7 mil and catapulted nike into the number 1 brand vs third or maybe, zilch back then. Adidias was king!!! Remember, the rap game adapted adidias and adidias was worn head to toe, if one could afford it. Adidias and Converse saw no interest in Jordan and, barely wooed him. He was a nobody amongst Magic, Byrd, akeem, etc.,... Nike made a shoe for him w his input, so converse's uncomfortable fit turned into a red and blk pair of nikes for Jordan.

So, to answer your question, because no mega star continued onward w converse or forced a comfort change, the brand continues to exist to f up, your feet. Converse high tops and short, shorts are no longer the "it" appeal. Blame Jordan!!!!

But, blame converse for being arrogant and banking on its loyals vs booking the rookie w something new and designed for him. I am old enough to know this story and buy those first pair of jordans. Lmao. I didn't own a pair of converse until I saw a yellow pair, in 06. I still have it and wear it, sometime.

maybe just bad luck, i still have my first pair from 2011, classics, Black & White. About every 6 months, i buy a new pair just to have a new pair, not because its needed. The Chuck will always be my favorite shoe, yeah at first it feels weird, especially if you rocked Jordans and Nike your whole life, but you get used to it, just gotta commit. I started using Converse exclusively when i graduated high school in 09, cause i realize that spending $150+ on other branded shoes was a bad call for my wallet.
