Collection is definitely an aspect. Here's the problem though, and you can agree with me or not, but digital software is licensed. This is an issue when it comes to the end of the console life and suddenly you don't have access to products you paid for. Physical copies don't have that limitation.
Is it likely that Nintendo / Sony / Microsoft are going to completely shut you out of your digital purchases ever? Probably not. Can they? Absolutely. If they go out of business (again, not likely) suddenly all those purchases you made on their storefronts are gone. There's no recovering them. Hope you managed to download them one last time and your storage media doesn't fail.
I will say I'm a fan of physical copies but digital copies are convenient as hell. I have a large digital library but I'll buy physical copies of things I really want to keep and have available in those situations where the internet is out or some other scenario where a digital copy just doesn't work anymore.
Collectors want physical. People who sell their things after playing/using them want physical.
I get wanting digital, especially when it's cheaper. But wanting something tangible for your money is not crazy, nor is it a mystery.
🤔
Let alone EVERYONES entire library of Wii shop games. Gone. Trapped on your physical system. Hope nothing happens to it. Music subscription services that went under. Gone. So there are some advantages to physical media.
