Walmart is selling out Stanley hand tools tools and socket sets on clearance. It seems store-wide clearance. YMMV.

Check clearance
aisle. YMMV.

The 6pc screwdriver set seems good value for $5.

Off subject a bit but check on the BB guns in store too. All the C02 pistols were $7-$14 in my store. I didn't need any so left them and went the next day and checked while there and there was only 3 left so people went nuts as there was a ton of them a day before.

I'm generally a fan (a casual one) of Stanley tools, because I love my Stanley wood planes and use a Stanley 1/2" socket set a lot. Just scored a nice new ratchet at Walmart on clearance, too. But the brand is not all kittens and rainbows. Last night I needed to remove a big torx screw on a car and didn't have the right size bit, I'm guessing a T35. So I found a flat blade Stanley screwdriver that fit, and promptly broke the whole end off of it. Not just the last millimeter on the end, but a good 1/4" or so! I was shocked, and disappointed, because I expected better from a basically new tool and barely put any torque on it. We've all misused tools before beet jeez, this shouldn't have happened.

The decline in quality came at the same time as their decision to move production from the USA to Red China. Coincidence? I think not.

My store had it near the Valentine Day/Holidays clearance sections if you can't find it in the tools aisle.

Didn't they just commit to building a factory in Texas?

Looks like they might be switching to a new brand. There was a major rework going on in the tools section.
I saw this display near garden area, but probably stores will be different.
Lots of items on clearance, but in this store, not much discount.

They did a few years ago, while Obama was still president actually. Unfortunately the plant will be a lot of "assembled in the usa with global parts" and not just "made in the usa" so so don't expect much to change quality wise. It's nice that a few Americans will have jobs there at least.

China made isn't necessarily bad, but when they went to china-made they also cut as many costs as possible, used worse steel, lowered all spec standards, etc.

I'm not saying it was better quality than that, but you misused a tool and you were surprised it broke?

With the walmart economy model of the modern USA marketplace, things found everywhere are made in China. The products might be OK, or they might be shoddy craftsmanship.

But at this point in history it's time to start moving our economy away from China. Doing business with them now is immoral, because they are morphing into a 21st Century Nazi state basically. Their citizens live in a literal police state, and the Muslim ones get put into concentration camps simply for having that religion, and the women of those muslim families get raped routinely by the agents of the state enforcing their segregation to "acclimate" the families to communist chinese standards (believe how we say, think how we say, or get put in the camps and get raped).
24/7 surveillance of all citizens, live organ harvesting of prisoners, and even the thermostats in all chinese homes are controlled by the government. Children sit indoors wearing coats because they're cold, because the government won't let them turn up the thermostats.

So, I look at labels now as a matter of routine, and I avoid goods made in China whenever possible.
