Patagonia is expensive, but their quality is sound and their customer service is the best of any company I've ever experienced. I had a 6" tear in my 4 year old high loft down jacket. Neighbor's golden retriever jumped up and his nail got it good. I bought it for 50% off 4 years ago ($150, $300 full price at the time, $280 now). I sent it back to them doubting a repair would be possible. Called after they got it, it would take up to 12 weeks. This was early December, and 12 weeks of Wisconsin winter without my main coat would suck. Couldn't find my order in my account, but she said she could refund me at the lowest they've sold it for, which was 50% off. She would also give me a 25% off coupon to go towards the purchase of the current version, which as stated above is now $280. So I bought the coat for 220ish shipped. 2 weeks later, I got an email. I had a refund for the full replacement cost ($223 and change) and a gift card for $74. I really don't know where that generosity came from, but when I googled before returning it, I saw several similar accounts.
Sorry for the book. For all the salty commenters that think it's just a name brand fad, you're wrong bordering on downright ignorant.

People who buy this stuff know how to do their own personal cold ratings based on the information given in the description. I can't tell you how cold you'd be at a certain temperature wearing x. It's going to be different for everyone. Instead I could tell you the fill rating and or rather or not it's insulated. You take that information and make your own cold rating. If your lost on this than go to a locally owned outdoor store. The one by me has times that you can setup appointments to have somebody help you get a better understanding on what's going to work best for you. At first it isn't easy. Nothing wrong with getting a little help.

Thanks
Edit I was wrong that was the REI sale last year not this one
For some.
On the other hand, many outdoor enthusiasts trust Patagonia with good reason.
Their price is high, but lower than Arc'teryx. And the sale prices do include a few nice pieces.
