2016 Newbery Honor Book
New York Times Bestseller

An impassioned, uplifting, and virtuosic tour de force from a treasured storyteller!

Lost and alone in a forbidden forest, Otto meets three mysterious sisters and suddenly finds himself entwined in a puzzling quest involving a prophecy, a promise, and a harmonica.

Decades later, Friedrich in Germany, Mike in Pennsylvania, and Ivy in California each, in turn, become interwoven when the very same harmonica lands in their lives. All the children face daunting challenges: rescuing a father, protecting a brother, holding a family together. And ultimately, pulled by the invisible thread of destiny, their suspenseful solo stories converge in an orchestral crescendo.

Richly imagined and masterfully crafted, Echo pushes the boundaries of genre, form, and storytelling innovation to create a wholly original novel that will resound in your heart long after the last note has been struck.

A Publishers Weekly Best Book

Winner of the 2015 Kirkus Prize for Young Readers

Is that $10 credit good on only one eBook? Or if I use it on this one will I still have $7.01 left?

I think I'm seeing YA means for young adults. Also for grades 5-8. I'm sure it'll still be great when my kid is old and competent enough to read it. Thanks op!

Reviews indicate lots of adults enjoyed it too. Reviews also rave about the audio version [amazon.com] of it, which you can add to your kindle purchase for $3.47.

Wait, Newbery only has one R? I could swear it was two. 41 years down the drain.

Is Caldecot next?

The writing of this book is beautiful but it's seriously marred by dishonest writing. It's difficult to explain without spoilers but essentially what happens is the author repeatedly tries to misdirect or mislead the reader. This isn't a mystery novel so it comes across as a cheap trick done over and over and over, even in the last pages of the book.

I heard wonderful things about the book but couldn't get over the author's dishonest writing style (I'm not saying she's a dishonest person, how she wrote this comes across as dishonest). Many people really like the book and I really wanted to like it but it fell flat for me.

This is fiction, you could just say you didn't like the authors writing style without over analyzing it.

Nice read. Book is divided into a few different stories that all tie into the end. but there really is not a good explanation at the end of why they all tied in. I enjoy most Newberry winners and honor books, but this wasnt my favorite.
