I've seen several times where there are unused wires in the bundle going to the T-stat...like a 5 wire run even though only 4 of the 5 are used for example. If that's the case for you, your probably in luck! If your really lucky, it'll be 24v thus a C wire ready to go. Every time I've seen this, the unused wires are dead though. If it is, don't fret! If you aren't afraid of taking the service panel off the air handler, do that, find the main board which should be obvious and right there in front of you. You'll see the row of screws the T-stat wires are attached to, and those extra dead wires at the t-stat are probably just hanging out there unconnected. Simply connect which one you want to use (usually the blue wire) to the screw labeled C (common), now you have an active C wire!
If you have a really old or non standard system with no common terminal to attach a c wire, there are other ways like right off the 24v transformer, but that takes a bit of research on your actual unit as to where to tap into. I
If you have the terminals, but not enough wires in the cable, you can always run a new cable between the air handler and T stat, or even just the single additional wire if desired.

Not all are the same. Pop off your current one to see what wires you have. Even tho this is honey well, go to Google nest thermostat compatibility checker and it'll help you identify if you have the needed C wire. Most cases you will, depending on the builder and age.
But the checker will def help you

They won't fit right in since they are all different shapes. It helps if you know if you have a c-wire. If you do, this would make most thermostats compatible with your home. If you don't you can buy an adapter. The fitting is just a matter of drilling a new mount.
