I use this wrench for swapping rims on my car for the winter. Works great, saves a lot of time and energy. I did strip one of the studs last year, so be careful. I'm sure most of you know what you're doing better than I do Wink

This is just an okay deal unless you really need all the 300 ft-lbs. You can add a Ryobi P166 and P238 to your cart and get them both for $99. The P238 can do 183 ft-lbs which is more than enough for lug nuts and most anything else many will be using it for. The P166 kit gets you two 3.0Ah Lithium+ HP batteries as well as a charger and bag.

Reading thru some of the Q&A on HD for this, one recommendation is to loosen lug nuts on the highest speed and tighten on the lowest.

always hand start lug nuts when putting on - learned that lesson a long time ago.

Is this a kit where it cannot be broken up and returned in pieces. I'd like to only keep the tool and pay some prorated price.

The posted deal cannot be split, but the alternative that I mentioned in this thread a bit ago can be.

Agreed, hopefully this is why it's getting clearanced. I have a P238 which will be enough for now but once their 1/2 is brushless and torque goes up that will be a good second tool for harder jobs..

You should be fully tightening lugs with a torque wrench really.

I don't have a dog in this fight so welcome any good alternatives but this is "apples to oranges". That's a 1/4" driver with 3Ah batteries. If they sold a 1/2" brushless wrench kit it would probably be 2x the price.

And as for suitability for removing lug nuts, there are definitely people who would disagree with you. I'm not one of them because I just don't know. Smilie

I will agree with this. It is one of the ways I decide on which tire shop to use.

IMO, Impact Wrench OK to remove but -only- Hand Torque Wrench to install lug bolts.

It is too easy to make a mistake with otherwise. Nobody ever said "There I was, jacking on that hand wrench, daydreaming when I realized that I had got 'er up to 400 foot pounds and sheared the lugnut right off of that vehicle!'

Deal is good IMO. P238 is an Impact Driver. OP's deal is for an Impact Wrench. Different tools. Could you remove lug nuts with an impact driver. Sure but it depends.

Yep, remember with this tool you have a 3 speed settings which roughly translates into 100, 200 and 300 ft - lbs.

So for my lug nuts which are ~ 140, I remove using speed 3. When installing back I hand tighthen, then use speed 1. Then final tightening is done with a Torque Wrench @ 140 ft - lbs

Right? Whats the reason? Mine does a pretty good job although struggles a little on my 20" truck wheels but always gets them loose. They are always lightly lubed and hand torqued on reinstallation. Just wish it had a teeny bit more umph..
