It's also not a CRT incase anyone was wondering.

The 82"model specifically is a VA panel, not IPS. The 86" and 75" are IPS. It's a samsung panel, personally I'd get a VA panel over large IPS, so much better blacks and no IPS flashlighting/glow. The 86" IPS is notoriously bad for that.

Also, NOT over $10,000

Not getting much love. Maybe this will be the normal price now?

I was anticipating this would come back this week. Missed last Friday's deal. Pulled the trigger today. Looks like it's coming back every friday-saturday. First week 1299, then 1249, now 1249 again.

Might as well wait for the 86" to drop below $1500.

So you're saying the 82" is better than the 86"....

Welp, I pulled the trigger finally. Going from an 8 year old Samsung plasma I'm figuring this will be a nice upgrade. Hard to pass on that price!

MVP!

This is an excellent point about monitors that you can NEVER compare in advertising / specifications. It's so hard to compare TVs to one another. There are some sites out there that do it (e.g. rtings, thewirecutter, etc), but none are perfect.

Most people are hung up on high refresh rate displays and marketing BS figures like "1ms response time", blissfully ignorant that their picture is actually much worse than the one they were trying to compare. Poor viewing angles, poor contrast, backlight bleed, etc. There's no real standard for measuring/advertising these things that anyone really adheres to.

After using IPS on my 75" LG versus my sister's 65" VA Samsung.....IPS all the way for me. My sister who had been using the VA panel for over a year was like....why is your TV looking so much better!!

Colors on IPS stand out much better and offers much more brigthness than a VA due to the pixel design. Of course you lose out on the black levels, but depending your content (I watch a lot of bright content) its noticeably better than VA on colors and brightness.
The color accuracy on this set is excellent after calibration and the contrast is better than other inexpensive ips sets. Main thing is viewing angle.
