Not that good of a deal for 2-3 year old specs.

Yeah, with the new 1600 AF version you can build something similar but better. Board is bottom of the barrel, and a 1060 3gb card isn't gonna cut much there days.

Not to steal this thread, but I'm posting since I haven't seen a gaming desktop deal lately...

I'm in the market for a newer/higher end system with CPU (i7-97xx, i9-9xxx, Ryzen 7) and Nvidia 2080 graphics. Hoping to find a decently priced system this weekend (President's Day) sale. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.
Just build one. It's like cooking your own meal ... you know what's in it. These days cases are so well laid out it's almost a pleasure. The one thing that has to be sorted out is the MB connections for the power switch, HD light, etc. Those are still medieval.

I built this, using this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gejkP3PhrCo

it's not high end so just substitute your CPU and MB for what u like

There was one posted within the last week, about $200 more but a way better build. This one is pretty old specs and I'd bet you'd regret the 3GB gpu. If this were my strict budget I'd look at what I could build before getting this one.

Would this desktop be ok for video editing? By video editing I mean a Max of 5-10 minutes of a final project. Also just video editing maybe 3-4 times a year (vacation go pro hero 7 black and dji mavic mini videos)

This would indeed be "okay". I'd be more confident if we knew the exact motherboard and what the power supply spec is for possible future upgrades.

You can potentially do better D.Y.I. if you're willing to deal with some open box deals and would end up with a better system at the same time.

TL;DR for $500 or below this would be okay, but no higher than that.

Funny you should say that. Tom's had a $500 build in December with a next generation CPU and an 8GB RX-580 (roughly the same speed but 2.5x GDDR).

You absolutely can build a (slightly) better machine for that price.

Yea, your right. Just nvidia vs amd , 580 is faster than 1060, but usually 1060 cost more...

Thanks will have to look into that. My perceived hassle for build-your-own is waiting for each part to go on sale one at a time which could take a couple of months before all the parts are collected.

I did look, but must've missed that or the deal has expired. I'll continue to look... patiently.

Yeah, there's some truth to that but my experience is that Newegg will have most of what you want on sale in any given 3 week period. Anyway $10 here or there is not worth worrying about. But try to get 32 gb of ram. Somehow it's really easy to eat up 16 gb.
