How worthwhile are more expensive rackets for casual players?

I'm using a Wilson Tour Slam right now.

Seems like a pretty good deal, quite a few Wilson rackets are 40-50% off. Thanks!

It really depends on how casual you are and how competitive you are playing "casually" with friends.

Most competitive players take these stock frames and then mod them (grip, strings, etc). Playing style obviously dictates what you pick. Athletic net rusher, or big server? How much spin you play with is a big factor.

Checking the price history, this racket has been around $80 since December.

How has racquet technology changed in the last 25 years? Like are classic racquets of the late 90s still competitive or its like playing with wood?

The grip size is the circumference measured around the edge of the handle and the sizes range from 4 inches to 4 3/4 inches.

you should probably check here to measure the correct grip for your hands

Rackets have changed dramatically. The technology in how they are built, the weight is distributed, the shape is designed, it all adds up to more power, control and is better on your arm. Tennis rackets really shouldn't be bought based on a bargain unless you rarely play. If you play every week I highly recommend you go to a local tennis club and have a professional walk you through a few choices, demo them and make your selection. What is good for one person is not always good for someone else.

For reference I played college tennis and actively coach juniors and adults with roughly 10 years of experience. This racket that's on sale is a great overall racket though, I would recommend it for people not looking to play more than a couple of times a month or year.

A lot depends on how casual and how often you play. 4x a year? No.
12x a year? Probably. Weekly? For sure.

The Blade @10.4 oz about the same weight as your current, but you might miss an oversize head.

Carbon fiber rackets feel much than aluminum, but break more easily if you whack something hard by accident or in a fit of anger (or a bad ball frame hit on a hard swing)

I liked the Head LM Radical OS, no longer made, so we'll see if I break my current one.Head Radical OS Limited is similar, 107sq in, 11.2oz unstrung, 11.8oz strung. $99 so a bit more $, about same head size as your current, but definitely heavier.

Heavier rackets are harder to do those reflexive arm powered squash shots but they'll take more of the impact (and deliver less to you).

Or if you want ~10.4oz in OS head there's the Head Radical Microgel OS. $90 at amazon now.
