Flats are for deadlifting. Lifted shoes are for back squats.

These type of shoes help those with lack of flexibility to squat to parallel depth. Some prefer a heel and some prefer flat shoes. We're all built differently. Personally they helped my form improve but I own Reeboks. These seem to have reviewed well on YouTube.

There are a few select sizes [amazon.com] for less at amazon. YMMV (13.5, 14.5, 15 or 16) other sizes $139+

I have an old pair of the red adipowers from way back. Anyone know if there have been significant upgrades to the design in the last few years?

Here's a video for comparison : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DG6G3NzFEws

I prefer the leather on the OG vs the canvas fabric on the Adipower 2.

Does anyone know the benefit of buying these versus just putting your heels on 5 lb weights while squatting? TIA

Power lifter here and I've always worn my flat Converse sneakers (virtually feels like squatting without shoes).

Advantage this way is you have better natural footing and on the way back up, pushing down hard with your heels is a lot easier and feels natural. Tank me later.

You won't have to find the weights every time you unrack

Have these in black. Love them. Provide some great stability and keep me close to the ground while giving more comfort than converse. Wear them on my leg days for front and back squat and back days for deadlift. Definitely not a shoe meant for running, ankle mobility is very restricted.

My squats has gotten noticeably weaker. Going to try these shoes to see if the support will help me get stronger.
